I do think that this experiment was ultimately successful, in that were I to not have known this was photoshopped ahead of time, the illusion would sell. However, watching the process, I think more could have been done with the actual mapping of the selected hair. It weirdly crops your head, and the contour doesn't fall as believably as it could have. More time spent with liquify filters, and mesh warping would be my recommendation for remedying that issue with the assets already provided. Other than that, shooting a wig that matches the aesthetic you were looking for would be the next step in producing an even more realistic result.
Matching your hair color at the end was a nice touch, but I think you could have added some shadow to your face to make the transformation even more realistic.
The basic concept has some power, because as a culture, we take hair pretty seriously. However, I think this could be stronger with a more directed background or composition. For example, if it was your reflection in a mirror, it would suggest how one's self-identity and self-image is defined by their hair/hairstyle/lack of hair. Or, if the idea is to show how hair represents youth, the background could be swapped with something more indicative of this culture.
I would suggest a more traditional closer portrait if all the changes are going to happen with only the hair.
I'm really impressed with how you matched the hair you put on your head to your beard. It makes for a much more natural feel.
