Eloi Solis_Night Prowler

For this project I wanted to create an abstract light painting using long exposure. I combined two images to create the final result the light trails part of the image was created with a light bar, which work well because it creates an illusions of a wide brush strokes. The light rays at the edges of the piece were created using a laser pointer and the just changed the color to match the color from the other image.

  1. Hi Eloi! I think what you have done here is really working effectively. I like how abstract it looks, and it really does look like a painting. You have a lot of colors going on, featuring various shades of purples, blues, and yellows. There is a lot of movement that takes the viewers eye from the top left corner to the top right corner, and finally to the bottom right corner.
This work is really unique because it reads as a cohesive piece even though there is a lot going on. The light bar did help to create an illusion of wide brush strokes and give a different texture to the first image which I assume was made with a smaller light to emulate a thinner brush stroke.
It definitely does scream abstract to me. For the most part, the streaks appear to be placed intentionally but it also creates this sort of "organized chaos", which I think is really different. One thing that I do wish we could have seen with the GIF was the original pictures, as I might be completely mistaken but it appears that we only see the light after you selected and masked the original photo?
This work could definitely exist within our larger culture. Abstract works of art are definitely in style, and they have been for a few years now. These bright, neon colors also reference a restyling of 80s culture that I have seen recently on social media. I also feel like long exposure works are appreciated by everyone nowadays, so as a whole this piece is extremely relevant to todays culture.
I think this piece is extremely effective. Your concept is so simple yet complex. By changing up the colors of the streaks it also creates this extremely bright and fun piece. The laser pointer light ray was also a really unique technique. I would have never thought a laser pointer could produce that textured effect. Great work!
