For my Night Prowler assignment I wanted to play with the way light moves throughout a shot. I decided to create a almost replica of a Ninja Turtle theme and portray different fighting motions and movements throughout the shoot.
Looking through the images I really like the idea that you had and creating different types of movement within the portrait. The different colors of the lightsticks really look nice and has that sort of party effect where you would be somewhat dizzy. The theme of ninja turtles movement was also a nice touch as it would feel like they would move alot while in action and the streaks of light trails show that.
ReplyDeleteWithout reading the description of what was going on I would have just assumed that you had just wiggled and wobbled your arms around with the light stick without actual movement to them. I think with the description it helps a bit of the meaning of the work but it could have a stronger meaning to it if some of the streaks had clarity to them. I also saw it sort of a rave type of idea where you are at a concert and they hand you light sticks and you're just having fun dancing around and waving around light sticks.
Judging from the pictures taken I would assume that everything turned out very well, the lighting of the sticks seemed very good and I really enjoyed the streaks that came off of them because of the long exposure times. I think that the clarity of each photo was very good and I could sense a movement within each image meaning that the description you gave made sense. Though I can see your movements clearly, I wished there would be more choreography to them than just punches or air movements. Maybe like running around or showing full body movements with the sticks.
I feel the relevance of this image might somehow connect with the current state of the world and maybe not really being seen as who you are. It might be a stretch but when I look at this and see how it is made it's almost like a mask that is covering you and you are only able to see little bits and pieces to the puzzle. Everyone nowadays is trying social distance and wearing masks but you can't really see or hear them well because the mask is covering up everything about their face. I feel like here it's like you can only see their movements and that's about it just like masks.
In summary I think that overall without the context of the description that was given people would be able to kind of guess what is going on besides the mentioning of ninja turtles. I would say that having more movement with a greater choreography would have made it even stronger but that's just my opinion. I really like how this turned out and hope to see more.
