Wet Plate - Matthew Abbott-Rigsbee

  1. The point of view gives a really interesting frame to the photograph with the person at the bottom of the frame. Allowing the cracks at the top of the photo moves your eye to the center of the piece where is it focused and clear on the persons face. The light leak, crack and shallow depth of field allows it to be convincing as a wet plate rather than just a photograph. Maybe having the sky white like a lot of the older photos could add to make it even more convincing. I also like the warm tint that is on the photo, creates an older image.

  2. The idea behind the wet plate was to counter and contrast the expected subject matter with something unforgettably modern. I shot a location that could conceivably be from the civil war era, just a bridge, some buildings, and trees with the sky. However, the main subject of the piece is a very modern and urban looking guy. He wears a modern hat, a Supreme hoodie, and a leather jacket. I wanted to juxtapose modern extremist hype-fashion with old style.
