Scale Exaggerated: Charlie Raggett

  1. very interesting idea, I just think it is missing some shadow to make it look more realistic,

  2. The figure in the cup appears a little out of place. Instead of having her stand on a marshmallow, have her holding onto a marshmallow like she is using it as a floating device. Then add shadows and highlights accordingly. The marshmallows would also effect the liquid it is floating in by making ripples in the drink and changing the shadows and highlights. Adding these elements would really bring the photo to life.

  3. This is a nice scale concept. However, I think the perspective could use a little work. The lighting is completely different from the figure to the hand, so tweaking that might help the depth come back into that part of the photo. The marshmallow that the figure is standing on should be pressed down more into the liquid because of the figure's weight. Also, the texture from the background spills over onto the cup. This could have been intentional, but it flattens that background and takes away from the depth in the overall piece.

  4. You definitely are showing the scale, the place of the larger hand did the trick! I would add shadow inside the cup where the girl is standing and maybe let the other ones that she did step on sink more down? I would also add movement to the marshmallows she stepped in too.

  5. The scale and perspective of your piece is very interesting! I would be look into matching the lighting a bit more. The figure on the marshmallow also appears very statue-like when in reality she would be in motion, adding a slight motion blur may add to this idea of her falling/running? Good job!

  7. The "performative" element of the figure's gesture and expression comes across as very stiff. I would consider having them act out cowering in front of the hand but with direction to act in slow motion, and then hold down the capture button to take rapid succession photos. I think that will result in a more naturalistic pose and emote.

I do enjoy that the marshmallow sinks under the figure's weight. I might look a little more into buoyancy and displacement? maybe having cocoa lines on the other marshmallows to indicate they'd been recently dunked, as if she's skipping across them? Also perhaps some ripples in the cocoa.

It's a really good start at applying those ideas, but I think some additional considerations of what would have happened prior to this snapshot will allow even more believable affectation to be added to the scene.
