Marco's Architectural Blend

Marco Di'Santi

Architecture Blend

UPDATE:

ORIGINAL:

My idea for this was for the merging of public and private architectural spaces. However, upon encountering some limitations with my understanding of architecture and my conflation of that terminology with interior design, I went with a slightly different blending. Blending a series of vertical Amphitheatre mezzanine columns and a spiral stairway in order to construct an arena in the visage of a spy glass out of public spaces to have it open up and reveal a bed. A bed which, while not specifically architecture itself, is indicative of private spaces. I also really liked how because I was able to catch all the people in the space unaware, they are all busy doing other things, yet are still engaged with the display, due to the constructed architecture. Constructing a simulation of the passive consumption of private lives that our society enforces within our media cultures, especially within the parasocial relationships we are encouraged to forge with our media and celebrity idols.

  2. Conceptually, I think everything worked out. I'm not entirely sure I need to revisit anything in this area. Based on the comments I received. I know you said to leave the parasocial idea behind. but that really wasn't a PART of this piece, as much as it was an inspiration for why I pursued this concept.

Photographic Technique wise. I wish I would have stumbled upon the idea of turning the bed on it's head sooner. As it was . . . I did that this morning. Had I realized it sooner. I would have had enough time to problem solve how to add a person to the bed. Possibly even two people, to add the idea of intrusion on intimacy as well as just privacy.

Additionally . . . I took all these photos on my phone. So perhaps next time I would use my dslr? btu the phone posed the best solution given the concept since I had to go up as high as I did, and get in and get out without being seen before someone called campus security since I was leaning WAAAY out over railings.

((If you recall I've had problems with that EXACT problem before, and it ended with me getting escorted off of campus despite being a student . . . so I was shooting this guerilla style.))

    In Photoshop:
Spending more time in the mask. Going in with clone stamp and really tooling those stairs so that it wasn't as confusing how it worked would be the first thing I would rework if I were to do this again. The railing and the way the stairs work was not the most coherent, and that was due to that change of direction occurring at the end of class on Monday, and thus giving me limited time to course correct. But I still should have caught some of those errors. I will next time.

    So Summary:

More time in the masking and stamping to really refine that stair case.

And photoshop a nearly naked individual somehow to composite them onto the bed as if they were sleeping to enhance the concept and sell the idea.

    I think that's about it.

    Death to fascism.
